Arizona Soccer Weekly Preview

The 104th Lamar Hunt US Open Cup comes to Tucson this Wednesday night when FC Tucson entertain UPSL side Colorado Rush in the 1st Round. Rush currently sit top of the Colorado Conference and reached the 1st round of the cup by beating FC Boulder and Marathon Taverna in the 1st and 2nd qualifying rounds respectively.

FC Tucson head coach Jon Pearlman said of the opponents “I’m expecting a very experienced team with a number of former professionals that are going to look to pick their moments and use their experience to put us off.”

Saturday sees FC Tucson (0-1-1) travel down to San Diego to play a PDL matchup against San Diego Zest (1-0-0). Tucson will be looking to pick up their first win of the season while Zest will be hoping to keep up their winning start having defeated Southern California Surf 1-0 at the weekend.

FC Arizona
(6-0-2) plays PDL side Albuquerque Sol in a friendly match on Wednesday night (7.30 Kick Off) at Mesa Community College before getting back to NPSL league duty away to Orange County on Saturday. County, like FC Arizona, are currently undefeated in the league (5-0-3). The 2 teams have met previously this season, battling out a goalless tie in Arizona back in March. In fact, County is the only team this season that has managed to shut out Arizona. That is no mean feat given that FC Arizona average over 3 goals a game!

Pheonix Rising
(2-0-3) will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Saturday after their heavy defeat against Reno in their last game. Rising welcome Oklahoma side OKC Energy (1-1-3) to the Phoenix Rising Soccer complex in a USL Western Conference match. OKC Energy comes into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Rio Grande Valley. The meeting between the teams in Arizona last season ended in a goalless tie. In fact, OKC has managed to shut out Rising in their last 3 matchups.
