FC Arizona Plays Host to Albuquerque Sol FC on Star Wars Night!

FC Arizona is red hot this season and sits on top of the NPSL Southwest Conference. FCAZ hasn’t lost a game and has allowed only two goals in 8 games this season. Tonight they will entertain Albuquerque Sol FC of the Pro Development League. A “Friendly” is a match outside of league conference play.

FCAZ enter the game coming off a 4-0 shutout of SoCal SC. The Sol come into the game hot as well after a big 5-0 win over Colorado State Pueblo. Albuquerque Sol FC are in the Mountain Division of the PDL, along with local team FC Tucson. Tucson also plays tonight as The 104th Lamar Hunt US Open Cup comes to Tucson when FC Tucson entertain Colorado Rush in the 1st Round.

As far as competition structure, the NPSL and the PDL are considered roughly equal, at the 4th tier of competition in US Soccer. Both leagues are sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation however no official tier designation is currently given by the USSF.

FC Arizona is also hosting The Dune Sea Garrison, the Arizona chapter of the 501st Legion, an international Star Wars costuming club. The local Star Wars fans and the local football club are teaming up to bring more fun to the already family oriented atmosphere that FC Arizona promotes. FCAZ promotes youth soccer by offering discount tickets to youth in their jerseys.  Players are available on the pitch after the game for pictures and autographs for the young fans.

Tonight’s game is a friendly match and will have no impact on conference standings for either team. We look forward to Saturday night when our local boys will travel to Orange County FC. Orange County is the only team to hold FCAZ scoreless this season and is one of only two teams within striking distance of the top spot in the Southwest Conference.

Tonight’s game will be held at John D Riggs Stadium at Mesa Community College with a 7:30p kickoff time. So get geared up in your favorite Star Wars costume and get the family out for some mid-week fun!! Enjoy some friendly family football and the best Star Wars costumes in the world!
